A Final Farewell

Normally, A707, or the Ole Holloway Express as I call it since Jason Holloway is the usual engineer, isn't much for excitement. April 11th was an exception though as TVRM's RDC cars 20 & 22,former B&O & later MARC RDC-1's, & the 6134 (affectionately known as the Can of Purple), a former Boston & Maine & later SEPTA RDC-1, were finally on the way to their new home at the Western Maryland Scenic Railroad.

The cars were being sent to Cumberland Maryland as part of the trade that would give us the 540, a former N&W Powhatan Arrow Pullman coach, the 100, a Budd car originally built as a sleeper for the N&W’s “Cavalier” before being rebuilt into a commuter coach by MARC, and the 726, an ACF (American Car & Foundry) combine car originally built for the Central of Georgia Railway’s “Nancy Hanks 2” as the 390. It was renumbered to 726 by the Southern and named the “Man O’ War.” This car gained notoriety in the preservation world due to its years of being used as the recording car on the Southern and later Norfolk Southern steam excursions.

On a side note, thanks are in order for CSX for donating the move of both the RDC’s & TVRM’s new coaches. 4-11-19
