An Increasing Rarity

An Unknown Norfolk Southern train, lead by EMD SD70 2553, rolls by CP Jersey on the NS main as Southern 630 sits on the base leg at Grand Junction, waiting for departure. Chances to catch an already rare engine (only 122 were made) are becoming rarer by the day as NS is having their SD70 lineup rebuilt into what they're calling the SD70ACC, which are the lastest rebuilds on NS and will be converted from DC to AC traction, will sport new wide cabs, and feature several electrical upgrades along with a new series numbering. With the first ones just about ready for delivery to NS, it really is only a matter of time before a site like this (at least on NS) becomes a thing of the past. Note the former BN/BNSF SD70MAC behind it, which NS is leasing from Progress Rail to supplement their power pool in part due to the SD70's getting rebuilt. 6-2-18
