This scene, with the starving refugee eating from a can and looking at me in fright while I caught him by surprise, was rather shocking... I thought the best way to portray that sequence would be to show both situations in one image, which was achieved using layers. The blur, simulating DOF, is tiltshift used in an unorthodox way.
