Frosted Elfin -female- (Callophrys irus) Worcester County, Maryland

Ovipositing on the blooms of her host plant, the Sundial Lupine (Lupinus perennis). She is tiny. Her forewing is less than half an inch.

 

Rare and declining. S1 in Maryland and G3 Globally, this species is declining in over much of its range. Typically occurs in sunny and open sandy or rocky habitat with frequent fire disturbance.

Done
