First Order Lego
“Floating city of Lanac”
3 years ago I made a drawing of a floating island with a city on it, bound to the earth by chains. Since then I knew I wanted to build it out of LEGO and since then I’ve been collecting pieces to build it. Finally at the start of this year the opportunity arose to display the MOC at a convention in Norway and I was ready to build it. A lot of people see different inspiration from pop culture for the build which is really cool to hear. However most of all I like hearing the story that comes about in someones head when they see the creation.
The build took about a month to finish. The entire base was built in less than 12 hours before my flight to the convention. Figuring out the size I could make it so it can fit in my suitcase was a challenge, making it modular was even more difficult, but making it sturdy was the hardest part of the building process. The first time I set it all up was at the convention centre in Norway and the MOC was visibly swaying forward and backward, therefore I was afraid I would walk into the convention centre the next day and see it all broken on the ground. However, that didn’t happen, nor did it break when I displayed it for 3 weeks in my local gallery in my home town. That was probably the biggest achievement of this MOC, making it sturdy and modular, which I didn’t fully succeed with my Bonsai MOC.
Besides the chains and the forest which are “seed parts” of the build I really enjoyed building the city and clouds. Even the rockwork, however challenging, was enjoyable to build.
If I had more time I would have put more effort in the desert and waterfall under the city. But I’m still happy with the end result and I hope you like it as well. The name Lanac comes from the croatian word for chain. Keep bricking!
