Partial solar eclipse

Timelapse of the partial solar eclipse taken from Christchurch at sunrise on Monday the 22 of September 2025 between 6:26am and 8:18am. One of few locations in New Zealand where the weather afforded a decent view of the eclipse. The initial part of the eclipse was covered by some cloud on the horizon. There was no appreciable loss of light when the moon moved in front of the sun. As luck would have it, just during the maximum of the eclipse, some cloud passed in front of the sun which added a little extra interest I think.

I used my star tracker to follow the sun. However, as I used my long lens (400mm) I had to use a counterweight. This is a setup I had never tried in the field. It would have worked well had I not bumped the alignment when I mounted the camera. The end result was that I had to manually align all the images in post processing. At the start I took some images manually with too much time in between before I started the interval mode. Apologies for a few little jitters along the way.
