Whitehead / pōpokatea

Another whitehead shot from when I was "ambushed" by a bunch of friendly whitehead/pōpokatea when visiting Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari.

I just noticed that this whitehead sits on the same branch where the Robin was sitting earlier.

Nationally the endemic whitehead population is declining.

At 3400 hectares, it makes Sanctuary Mountain one of the largest pest-proof fenced projects in the world. This pest-proof fence is 47km long and offers a safe haven for many of New Zealand’s most endangered species.
