Lunar eclipse blood moon

Last night's lunar eclipse / blood moon event seen in the Waikato. We had fantastic clear skies. Just amazing how mother nature can put on this show. I didn't even have to travel far to capture this just west of Hamilton on the way to Raglan. I found this large old and dead tree willing to pose in the foreground for some added interest. You can see a little bit of air pollution from Hamilton just on the horizon.

I could have taken a shot of just the moon but that would be boring. So, what we see here is the moon of course, but close to the milkyway core and the body of the scorpion of the constellation scorpius in between the moon and the milkyway.

This to me is what made the lunar eclipse just a little bit more special!
