Scrapyard Buses
With so many SM family buses at Wombwell Diesels on 25 May 1979 it would be no surprise to find two parked together at a quick glance. SMD 412 finished its time with LT as a Staff Bus - hence the destination display never associated with service work.
But a closer look reveals that the bus on the right is a Merlin - the only example on the premises on that day. I have recorded it as MB 636. The vehicle record on the excellent Ian`s Bus Stop site suggests that MB 636 would not have been at Wombwell. I`m not saying that I would not have made a mistake in noting the number but whilst it`s not unusual for that front panel to be missing, a rear view (to be posted at a later date) shows the rear registration plate has been suspiciously removed with force. An advert for a Loughton based business is on the rear. MB 636 last worked at Loughton. Maybe Mick will know........
