LT/LCBS Bus Garages
Hackney Garage closed in April 1981 and was used for occasional vehicle storage over the next couple of years until sold. This view taken on 2 January 1983 shows something that I don`t recall seeing in other garages - the written banning of operating staff from the dock area. It used to be the case on LT that operating staff and engineering staff didn`t mix - or had any inclination to - and thus such signage really wasn`t needed. In most garages, the dock area was often in a part of the garage where operating staff had no cause to be in anyway and interaction between the two sides would be minimal and of necessity. Mortlake was the only garage I ever knew where camaraderie extended across all grades on first name terms. That just didn`t normally happen in LT garages.
