Big Kitty 2012

Big Kitty from 2012. Dirt landscaping courtesy of our Southern California drought.

Big Kitty was a 19 pound tomcat that lived to age 20. He was our pet for 17 of those years. He was put down in August 2019 due to cancer of the nose.

Most people adopt pets, but Big Kitty adopted me. My house is across the street from an elementary school. One night I was jogging around the school when I spotted this cat out of the corner of my eye. I kept jogging but sensed something. I turned around and saw this cat running after me. How strange, I thought. So I picked up the pace, but so did the cat. He's still running behind me. After a short period of time I looked back again and the cat was gone. Well, I shook him off, didn't I?

I made a couple more laps around the school. When I arrived at my house what did I see? That cat, sitting in my yard about 10 feet from the front porch. Just sitting there waiting for me. This seemed really weird. I didn't have any cat food, so I gave him a can of tuna and some water. As they say, the rest is history.

I was trying to think of a name for the cat when someone remarked that he was a big kitty. The name stuck and so did he. Big Kitty was a member of our family for many years.
