A very speedy #261 is about to hit the grade level crossing of the BN's Butte Shortline. This is the first of three main crossings at grade the train will cross on their way west plus two former NP branches.
Open auto racks were obviously vulnerable to winter ice in tunnels. Pantographs naturally took care of the problem. Specially equipped dash two's later took on the tunnel ice.
My brother beat me to this shot so he grudgingly gets credit.
