Localisée à l'Europe méridionale et centrale. Volant le jour dans les landes à genêts où il est parfois commun, le papillon se pose les ailes jointes comme les rhopalocères. Les chenilles vivent sur divers genêts.La chrysalide hiverne,

distribuée en Europe centrale jusqu'en Transcaucasie, était présente en **Alsace de manière localisée jusqu'à la fin du XIXe siécle**. Timidement de retour depuis 2012 mais à nouveau absent depuis quelques années,/
