Very dull day Plymouth Laira November 1973.
I t was a very dull day when I went round Laira depot, three Western's stand in a line in the yard left to right 1053 , 1025 Western Guadsman and 1065. Class 46 139 stand's on the right . One thing that struck me that day was most of the Western's seen were filthy not a clean one on view. 26 Western's were here that day, but 9 of them were withdrawn: 1004/17/20/24/32/38/39/42/60. with 1007/12/16/25/34/40/50/51/53/62/64/65/66/67/69/71/73. 1035 was seen at Exeter. 1003/14/51 at Newton Abbot, and 1029/40/50/71 at Plymouth station. A good day out despite the weather but it was a sad sight to see so many Western's out of use. 03/11/1973. The other 2 withdrawn Western's 1018 1019 were towed from here to Swindon Works along with 08 4007 by Class 31 5805 on 26/07/1973.
