Reading September 1973.
Taken from the step's of Reading signal box [ in private use] we see Class 50 401 approaching Reading Station with a service from Bristol Temple Mead's to London Paddington. 401 had come over from Crewe in May 1973 and had been use on crew training, at this time Class 47,s and Class 52,s were in charge of most of the the WR's main services, but more 50.s were being transfered from Crewe and would soon be talking over the Bristol /Paddington services. This was the only Class 50 I saw that day, but change was in the air as more 50's came to the WR the writing was on the wall for the Western's. Reading 15/09/1973.
