Stranded 3190 and friends in Eureka

Thirteen years and things can change. In 1994 the 3190 was an operating locomotive between Willets and Eureka, now it's isolated from the south end of the NWP by line closures and stranded in downtown Eureka along with a quartet of former NPC owned- ex-SP units that mold and rust away in chronic humid, cool coastal conditions. Steps have been torched off the units to keep homeless folks from occupying the cabs, engine sides have been covered in graffiti and lighting elements have been vandalized. Under directions by the city of Eureka, the units were painted an overall gray to reduce their negative visual image on the city landscape. Not much can be done to remove their physical presence from the city. A sad tale of a railroad that no longer is functional and tracks that are no longer connected to the outside world.
