Middelburg arrival behind a Class 1200 - the 1213
A longer train - indicating an intercity train, arrives at Middelburg in Zealand- Netherlands. Only 25 of these units were ever built (between 1951-53) and they were finally retired in 1998. Each unit is double-ended and offer 2200 hp. Outfitted with C-C trucks (bogies) the units are capable of 150 kph (93 mph). The Dutch-made units were put together after a design by Baldwin-Westinghouse. To me, the windshield and nose are slightly reminiscent of the appearance of an ALCo FA nose, that combined with the three axle bogies was enough to induce my ALCo envy. This is a westward movement that will terminate in about 3 km at Vlissingen, the next station and the western end of this line.
