Yala National Park is the most visited national park in Sri Lanka, bordering the Indian Ocean.The park covers 979 square kilometres and consists of five blocks, two of which are now open to the public.The park is primarily shrub jungle with rocky out crops that dot the park.Yala hosts a variety of ecosistems ranging from moist monsoon forests to freshwater and marine wetland.The park is best known for its variety of wild animals. It is importent for the conservation of Sri Lankan elephants and Sri Lankan leopards.
