RtS stencil, Dublin, Ireland
A stencil on a traffic signal box on the Promenade in Sutton in Dublin, Ireland
The text reads:
“Take Back The City – RECLAIM THE STREETS
Saturday 24th September 2005 2pm
@ The Spire”
There is also a little skeleton man with a top hat stencilled beside the words.
Reclaim the Streets (RtS) from their beginnings in the mid-1990s have been one of the most identifiable components of the second generation of the New Left. Many supporters also were in the Anti-Globalisation Movement.
This movement is identified by a shared ideal of community ownership of public spaces. Actions by RtS campaigners include invasions of roads with the intention of opening up the public space. The aim is to create in the Temporary Autonomous Zone a car-free area for use by pedestrians to enjoy the free food and music provided.
