The Bridge Tavern, Summerhill, Dublin

A common name for a pub, Dublin’s "Bridge Tavern" is on the corner of Summerhill Parade and Clarence Street.

It is in the shadow of Croke Park stadium, the principal stadium and headquarters of the Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA).

Since 1891 Croke Park has hosted Gaelic sports (such as hurling and Gaelic football), and has grown to become a major influence in the cultural life of the local communities.

As of this photo in 2018 Dublin county was preparing for its 4th All-Ireland Senior Football Champions title in a row. The trophy at the end of this knockout competition contested by GAA county teams commemorates Sam Maguire, a legendary footballer and leading figure in the London GAA and wider Irish emigrant community in England.

The photo was taken during one of those rare things in Ireland – a heat wave !

The summer of 2018 was so hot the government ordered water rationing

The artwork was done by FeatureWalls the mural painting company (www.featurewalls.ie)

Funding was provided by the North East Inner City task force (www.neic.ie)
