Question C.-IE-

Describe a time when you took a great risk. What was the outcome?

One of the biggest risks that I have had to face in my life is shown by these two images. Both photographs, show some of the hardest moments I've endured in the mountain fortunately the outcome was positive. More specifically, I was working in the ski and snowboard World Championships wich took place in Sierra Nevada this year 201. I was in charge of the goal of Halfpipe (mode I was assigned throughout the competition). Due to the lack of volunteer staff in one of the championship events, they needed our help in preparing the track on the day of the race. I volunteered along with more colleagues in my group. At first if the weather conditions allowed us, everything should have gone the way it was prepared.

We had an early call at 6am, we had to be already on track with the material prepared around 6:30 in the morning. The day came, it had not stopped snowing all night, yet the test continued and our help was still needed. We agreed to go up and we assumed that the conditions were adverse (there was still no light, it continued to snow, there was a notable drop in temperatures, a lot of wind and bad visibility conditions) Our work was in general terms: some of us prepared the track for the classification and others waited next to a specialized technician close to the doors in case it moved, we had to place it in the right spot. They were very basic tasks at first, but that day the storm made them really difficult to develop. We had to wait for two hours sitting under the snowstorm to fix the track, once it was ready we had to go down next to the technician one by one through the different doors and place ourselves next to each door. It was complicated because of the poor visibility that was making it impossible for us to carry out our task properly and besides all this we had to add the low temperature there was that day which froze our hands and face. In the end, the competition was canceled because it was impossible to continue. All this series of events that I have narrated here made me count it today and rejoice in some way of having been there and of not having surrendered to the first. It made me overtake myself to the very thing I thought I would never do. The fear that day we had to leave it behind and trust ourselves and believe that we could do it despite the poor conditions that accompany us.

In the end, the result was to show the great work we could all carry out as a team. Each of us knew how to give the best of himself/herself and by adding these actions we all did a successful job that day. After this experience I learned mainly what it is to work in group under that level of pressure in which none of us is comfortable and yet the task is carried out satisfactorily.
