Daniel School
Daniel School
Daniel, the town, was established by Thomas Pixley Daniel in 1900, when he was appointed the first postmaster.
The town is best known as being the host for The Rocky Mountain Rendezvous, which was an annual rendezvous at which Native Americans, trappers and mountain men sold their furs and hides and replenished their supplies.
The Daniel School was built in 1920. The first class had eleven students. Not bad for a town of 100. This was at a time when school was commonly held in barns.
The last classes were held in 1939. Students were then bussed to nearby Pinedale, which still occurs today.
The former school is now The Daniel Community Center. The Schoolhouse is on the National Register of Historic Places.
