General Wolfe

Much hated 300 year old statue of General James Wolfe has found a quiet home at the Morrin English language Library in Old Quebec.Commissioned in 1779 by Mr. George Hips. a Scottish veteran of the British army who lived in Quebec City at the time. It was created out of wood and iron by Yves and Hyacinthe Chaulette. It stood in front of a butcher store in downtown Quebec for hundreds of years. Was often knocked over by the French (because Wolfe defeated Montcalme) and by the English who felt the Wolfe statue didn't do their hero justice. It was stolen by sailors and taken to the Caribbean and then later England before being returned to Quebec City. Now on display in the library!
