Jeune Renarde roux (Vulpes vulpes) - Young Red Fox
Appelé aussi Renard commun, Renard rouge ou, rarement encore, Goupil (son appellation au Moyen Âge, avant que le succès du Roman de Renart ne transforme ce prénom d'origine germanique en nom commun), est une espèce de Canidés de taille moyenne. Il s'agit du renard le plus répandu en Eurasie, en Amérique du Nord, en Afrique du Nord et en Australie. C'est un mammifère au pelage roux marqué de blanc sous le ventre et la gorge, au museau pointu, aux oreilles droites et à la queue touffue. L'espèce est classée dans l'ordre des Carnivora, mais il a un régime alimentaire omnivore à prédominance carnivore, et se nourrit surtout de rongeurs et de lapins, mais aussi d'insectes, de poissons ou de fruits. Il est ainsi très opportuniste, ce qui lui permet de s'adapter à des milieux très différents et de modifier son alimentation suivant le mois de l'année.

Also called Common Fox, Red Fox or, rarely yet, Goupil (its name in the Middle Ages, before the success of the Roman de Renart transformed this first name of Germanic origin into a common name), is a species of Canidae of medium size. It is the most common fox in Eurasia, North America, North Africa and Australia. It is a mammal with a red coat marked with white under the belly and throat, with a pointed muzzle, straight ears and a bushy tail. The species is classified in the order of Carnivora, but it has an omnivorous diet predominantly carnivorous, and feeds mainly on rodents and rabbits, but also on insects, fish or fruits. It is thus very opportunistic, which allows it to adapt to very different environments and to modify its diet according to the month of the year.
