1912 Chilean Steyr Mauser bolt handle

The Steyr-produced Austrian Model of 1912 rifle for Chile remains one of the longest-lived rifles in history. Indeed, 102 years after its adoption and more, it still sees parade, ceremonial, and other uses in Chile. These are also superb, precise, strong Mauser Model 1898 actions.

The one whose details are revealed here is a 1912/61, with 2-groove M1903A3 reconfigured barrel of 23" length. Some of these were not remarked, most were. The conversion to 7.62x51mm. NATO was done to provide cartridge compatibility with the Swiss StG.57 rifles entering service in the sixties.
