Diego Suarez (Madagascar) – J’arrête avec la série sur les décharges à ciel ouvert. Deux photo, c’est suffisant, mais j’y reviendrai.
La photo ci-dessus me permet de rappeler combien les marchés à travers le monde sont photogéniques. Le problème, c’est que sans un minimum d’attention et de chance, on rate la plupart de ses photos. On est trop souvent tenté de déclencher les étals colorés et d’en oublier l’environnement et la composition. Bien cadrer et composer son image n’est pas chose aisée sur un marché, tropical ou non, en raison de la multiplicité des éléments à prendre en considération. Trouver un minimum d’harmonie dans ce chaos tient du défi.
Chose rare à Madagascar, sur le grand marché populaire de Diego Suarez, l’appareil photo n’est pas particulièrement le bienvenu. C’est ici que j’ai essuyé le plus grand nombre de refus. Si on accepte que je photographie, on prend la pose et on me demande souvent de l’argent. Ce n’est pas systématique, mais ça arrive souvent.
Pour cette photo, j’ai volontairement pris un peu de recul pour ne pas braquer l’objectif sous le nez de ces dames. J’ai fait semblant de m’intéresser aux tomates du premier plan, avant de dézoomer et déclenche au moment où la femme debout, un foulard sur la tête, vêtue de bleu, jeune et noire, se place idéalement entre les deux vendeuses. En me tenant à distance, les femmes m’observaient, sans plus.

The photo above reminds me how photogenic markets around the world are. The problem is that without a minimum of attention and luck, you'll miss most of your photos. We're too often tempted to snap photos of the colorful stalls and forget about the surroundings and composition. Framing and composing your image well is not easy in a market, tropical or not, due to the multitude of elements to take into consideration. Finding a modicum of harmony in this chaos is a real challenge. Unusually for Madagascar, in the large popular market of Diego Suarez, cameras are not particularly welcome. It's here that I encountered the most refusals. If people agree to let me take their picture, they pose and often ask for money. It's not always the case, but it happens frequently. For this photo, I deliberately stepped back a bit so as not to point the lens directly at the women. I pretended to be interested in the tomatoes in the foreground, before zooming out and taking the shot at the moment when the woman standing there, a scarf on her head, dressed in blue, young and black, positioned herself ideally between the two saleswomen. Keeping my distance, the women simply observed me.
