(Madagascar) - Photo préparatoire à une série de portraits sur les orpailleurs malgaches. Pour réaliser mon reportage sur les chercheurs d’or, il fallait que je prenne contact avec eux. Ou plutôt avec elles, car mes orpailleurs étaient principalement des orpailleuses. Elles ne parlaient pas un mot de français. Mon chauffeur de taxi leur a expliqué la raison de ma présence, ce qui les a fait beaucoup rire. J’en ai profité pour faire une première photo test, sans vraiment cadrer. Juste pour leur montrer à quoi elles ressemblaient sur mon écran de contrôle. Ce premier contact pris, j’ai pu passer ma journée à les photographier en plein travail et au moment des pauses. Une belle rencontre.

 

(Madagascar) - Preparatory photo for a series of portraits on Malagasy gold prospectors. To make my series on gold prospectors, I had to get in touch with them. Or rather with them, because my gold prospectors were mainly women. They didn't speak a word of French. My taxi driver explained to them the reason for my presence, which made them laugh a lot. I took the opportunity to take a first test photo, without really framing. Just to show them what they looked like on my control screen. Once this first contact was made, I was able to spend my day photographing them at work and during breaks. A great meeting.
