Une Fondation suisse soutient l’engagement d’Action Bénarès auprès des intouchables
Varanasi (Inde) - Fin septembre 2023, deux membres de la Fondation suisse Lord Michelham of Hellingly, étaient à Varanasi pour rencontrer sur le terrain, l’équipe médicale d’Action Bénarès. Cette petite ONG apporte une aide sanitaire gratuite depuis bientôt 50 ans dans les bidonvilles et léproseries de la cité indienne. Elle est également présente quotidiennement dans le service des grands brûlés dans l’un des hôpitaux gouvernementaux où elle soulage les souffrances de celles et ceux qui n’ont pas les moyens de payer leur hospitalisation.
Cette photo a été prise le 27 septembre dernier dans le bidonville de La Kharbuza. Sylvie Decobert, la présidente de la fondation qui aide financièrement chaque année de nombreuses ONG internationales à travers le monde, assiste aux soins apportés aux habitants du bidonville.
En 2019, la Fondation avait déjà apporté une importante aide financière à Action Bénarès qui lui avait permis de poursuivre son travail pendant toute la durée de la pandémie. Après avoir constaté l’importance de l’aide sanitaire la Fondation s’est dite favorable pour renouveler son soutien financier pour une durée de 3 ans.
A Swiss Foundation supports Action Bénarès’ commitment to the untouchables
Varanasi (India) - At the end of September 2023, two members of the Swiss Lord Michelham of Hellingly Foundation were in Varanasi to meet the Action Bénarès medical team on the ground. This small NGO has been providing free health aid for almost 50 years in the slums and leprosariums of the Indian city. She is also present daily in the burn unit in one of the government hospitals where she relieves the suffering of those who cannot afford to pay for their hospitalization.
This photo was taken on September 27 in the La Kharbuza slum. Sylvie Decobert, the president of the foundation which financially helps numerous international NGOs around the world each year, witnesses the care provided to the inhabitants of the slum.
In 2019, the Foundation had already provided significant financial assistance to Action Bénarès which enabled it to continue its work throughout the duration of the pandemic. After observing the importance of health assistance, the Foundation said it was in favor of renewing its financial support for a period of 3 years.
