Procession religieuse au pas de course
Soatanana (Madagascar) - Photographier une procession religieuse, c’est un peu comme une manifestation. Il faut se creuser la tête pour en restituer son ampleur tout en étant lisible au premier coup d’œil.
Comme les membres de la secte protestante se dirigeaient vers la basilique à vive allure, « pour ne pas faire attendre le Christ », je devais réfléchir tout en courant. Ils ont dû me prendre pour un fou en me voyant m’activer de la sorte.
En me retournant, j’ai vu le clocher d’une église (il y a une petite communauté catholique dans le village), qui pourrait mettre la scène en perspective, tout en donnant un aperçu du village. J’ai couru jusqu’à un tonneau sur lequel je suis monté pour dominer la procession et prendre cette photo. Je dois avouer que perché en équilibre instable, je me suis surtout concentré sur la ligne d’horizon pour éviter d’avoir un cadre de travers. Les marcheurs allaient trop vite pour anticiper leur position au moment du déclenchement et je n’ai pas pu éviter de couper quelques personnes sur les bords. Malgré ces détails, cette photo restitue assez bien la réalité de la scène.

Soatanana (Madagascar) - Photographing a religious procession is a bit like a demonstration. You have to rack your brains to restore its scale while being readable at first glance.
As the members of the Protestant sect rushed towards the basilica, "so as not to make Christ wait", I had to think while running. They must have taken me for a madman when they saw me activating myself in this way.
Turning around, I saw the bell tower of a church (there is a small Catholic community in the village), which could put the scene in perspective, while giving a glimpse of the village. I ran to a barrel I climbed on to dominate the procession and take this photo. I must admit that perched in an unstable balance, I mainly concentrated on the horizon line to avoid having a crooked frame. The walkers were going too fast to anticipate their position at the time of the trigger and I couldn't avoid cutting a few people on the edges. Despite these details, this photo restores the reality of the scene quite well.
