Kompong Chhnang (Cambodge) - Le fleuve Tonlé Sap est la plaque tournante de l'activité économique de Kompong Chhang. J'ai pris cette photo à l'est du village flottant. Il ne m'a pas fallu bien longtemps pour tomber sur cette scène, alors que je me baladais en scooter sur la piste poussiéreuse qui longe le fleuve.
Quand je suis arrivé, la barge transportant des centaines de sacs de grain était pratiquement déchargée. Il n’en restait que quelques dizaines à transférer sur le camion qui s'apprêtait à partir pour la capitale. On ne le voit pas sur la photo, mais en attendant, le chauffeur dormait dans un hamac accroché sous l'énorme camion, entre les roues.
L'homme sur la photo s'amuse de me voir le photographier, malgré un sac d'environ 80 kilos en équilibre sur l'épaule.
Ce genre de scène n'intéresse guère les touristes de passage, uniquement attirés par le village flottant. Mais la pandémie a mis un sérieux coup d'arrêt à l'activité touristique qui, aujourd'hui encore, a chuté de plus de 90 %. Alors ici, comme dans tout le Cambodge, un étranger devient une vraie curiosité.

Kompong Chhnang (Cambodia) - The Tonle Sap River is the hub of economic activity in Kompong Chhang. I took this photo east of the floating village. It didn't take long for me to come across this scene, while I was riding my scooter on the dusty track that runs along the river.
When I arrived, the barge carrying hundreds of sacks of grain was almost unloaded. There were only a few dozen left to transfer to the truck which was about to leave for the capital. You can't see it in the photo, but in the meantime, the driver was sleeping in a hammock hanging under the huge truck, between the wheels.
The man in the photo is amused to see me photograph him, despite a bag weighing around 80 kilos balanced on his shoulder.
This kind of scene does not interest passing tourists, only attracted by the floating village. But the pandemic has put a serious halt to tourist activity, which even today has fallen by more than 90%. So here, as in all of Cambodia, a foreigner becomes a real curiosity.
