Un bidonville flottant
Kompong-Chhnang (Cambodge) - Le village flottant est majoritairement habité par une importante communauté vietnamienne. En 2019, de nombreuses habitations étaient érigées sur de spacieux radeaux en bois dont les flotteurs étaient constitués de rudimentaires paquets de roseaux, attachés entre-eux par de simples cordages. Cette années, ces pontons flottants avaient disparus pour la plupart et le village n’était constitué que d’un incroyable enchevêtrement de barques et de jonques. Jamais le « village » n’a autant ressemblé à un bidonville flottant. Bidonville qui reste pourtant la principale attraction touristique de Kompong Chhnang.
Contrairement à 2019, malgré les sourires et l’accueil chaleureux des habitants, j’ai ressenti comme un malaise. De photographe étais-je devenu un vulgaire voyeur ? Pourtant, c’est ici que j’ai réalisé la série qui me semble la plus aboutie de ce voyage. Pour dissiper ce sentiment, j’envisage d’y retourner pour passer quelques jours sur ces embarcations et partager le quotidien des habitants.
A floating slum
Kompong-Chhnang (Cambodia) - The floating village is mainly inhabited by a large Vietnamese community. In 2019, many dwellings were erected on spacious wooden rafts whose floats consisted of rudimentary bundles of reeds, tied together by simple ropes. This year, these floating pontoons had disappeared for the most part and the village consisted only of an incredible tangle of boats and junks. Never has the "village" looked so much like a floating slum. Shanty town which nevertheless remains the main tourist attraction of Kompong Chhnang.
Unlike 2019, despite the smiles and the warm welcome of the locals, I felt a sense of unease. From photographer had I become a vulgar voyeur? However, this is where I took the most accomplished photos of this trip. To dispel this feeling, I plan to go back there to spend a few days on these boats and share the daily life of these inhabitants.
