La pirogue des Danaïdes
Champasak( Laos) - Quand il ne se passe pas grand chose, il faut s’armer de patience au cas où une scène intéressante se présenterait. Mais à ce petit jeu on peut attendre longtemps. On peut alors utiliser les objets à sa disposition pour composer une scène qui ne vient pas d’elle-même. C’est ce que j’ai fait avec cette photo. L’homme qui écope sa pirogue qui prend l’eau, je l’avais photographié sous plusieurs angles, mais la photo restait désespérément sans relief. Je repartais un peu déçu et frustré, quand je suis passé devant ces nasses pourtant bien visibles, mais j’étais trop concentré sur mon piroguier. En me retournant une dernière fois, j’ai aperçu à travers ces casiers, l’homme dont l’embarcation semblait toujours se prendre pour « le tonneau de Danaïdes ». Et là, la scène s’est imposée d’elle-même. Je n’ai eu qu’à me rapprocher et me baisser légèrement pour composer mon cadre… Et attendre que l’homme se relève.
The Danaides canoe

We can then use the objects at our disposal to compose a scene that does not come by itself. That's what I did with this photo. The man who empties his canoe taking on water, I had photographed him from several angles, but the photo remained hopelessly without relief. I was leaving a little disappointed and frustrated, when I passed in front of these traps, which were nevertheless clearly visible. Turning around one last time, I saw through these lockers, the man whose boat always seemed to think he was "the barrel of Danaides". And there, the scene imposed itself. I only had to get closer and bend down slightly to compose my frame… And wait for the man to get up.
