Le sourire du Gilet Jaune
Rouen (France) - Si je m’étais rendu à plusieurs reprises pour photographier les occupations des ronds-points, c’est la première grande manifestation des Gilets Jaune à laquelle j’allais assister. Les précédentes manifestations s’étaient terminées par des affrontements avec les forces de l’ordre. Des collègues journalistes avaient également été pris à partie par les manifestants. J’étais prévenu. Je ne savais pas comment je serais accueilli, alors j’avais décidé de venir anonymement et de m’infiltrer en me faisant passer pour un simple manifestant. Je m’étais abstenu de revêtir un gilet jaune car si au début du mouvement j’étais sympathisant non actif, j’avais pris du recul en raison d’un fonctionnement brouillon, incontrôlé, contradictoire et violent.
Je suis arrivé place de la mairie, lieu du rassemblement, en avance. Il y avait déjà du monde et l’ambiance n'était pas trop tendue.
J’ai aperçu ce jeune homme dont l’accoutrement m’a fait penser à « l’Homme qui rit » le roman de Victor Hugo. Chose que je fais rarement dans les manifestations, j’ai lui ai demandé s’il acceptait que je le photographie ? Je ne voulais pas commencer cette manifestation avec un coup de poing en pleine figure. Un portrait pour tester le bon fonctionnement de mon appareil photo. Finalement il était sympathique et a pris la pose. Ce qui m’a amusé c’est son œil rieur qui contrastait avec son foulard.

Rouen (France) - If I had gone to roundabout occupations several times, this was the first major demonstration of Yellow Vests that I attended. As usual, I arrived at the meeting place well before the official time. Previous protests had ended in clashes with law enforcement. Fellow journalists had also been taken to task by the demonstrators. I was warned. I didn't know how the reception would be, so I decided to come anonymously and infiltrate as a simple protester. I had refrained from wearing a yellow vest because if at the beginning of the movement I was a non-active sympathizer, I had taken a step back because of the messy, uncontrolled, contradictory and violent functioning of the movement.
When I arrived at the town hall square, the meeting place, there were already a lot of people and the atmosphere was good-natured. Something I rarely do in demonstrations, I asked this young man if he would accept that I photograph him ? A portrait to train me. So he took the pose. What amused me was her laughing and friendly eye which contrasted with her scarf.
