Jaisalmer (Inde) - J’ai croisé cet homme alors qu’il était dans un minuscule café indien d’une rue de Jaisalmer. C’est un paysan qui était en déplacement en ville avec deux amis. Je me suis installé à côté d’eux alors qu’ils devisaient avec animation. Ils ont accepté que je les photographie. J’ai fait deux photos. Un plan large avec les trois amis. Ils étaient raides comme des piquets, le regard fuyant. Et ce portrait plus serré. Quand je vois l’attitude gênée de ce Rajput, je crois que les trois amis n’avaient pas osé me dire non. En tout cas ils ne savaient pas quelle attitude adopter. Quand j’ai réalisé que cet homme n’était pas à l’aise, j’ai rangé mon appareil photo et je leur ai payé un thé. Ils se sont alors détendus.

I sat next to them as they chatted animatedly. They agreed to let me take their picture. I took two photos. A wide shot with the three friends who were stiff as stakes. And this tighter portrait. When I saw the embarrassed attitude of this Rajput, I believe that they had not dared to say no to me. In any case, they did not know what attitude to adopt.
