Madagascar - Selon les historiens, les Zafimaniry seraient encore environ 25.000 dans les montagnes de la région d’Ambositra. Les communautés sont réparties dans plusieurs villages autrefois situés en pleine forêt. Ce qui explique pourquoi cette ethnie est experte dans le travail du bois. Aujourd’hui, la déforestation est passée par là. Ce n’est pas la construction de quelques centaines de maisons qui en est la cause, pas plus que les objets artisanaux, mais l’agriculture sur brulis.
Si le tourisme pointe son nez dans ces villages, les Zafimaniry restent très attachés à leur culture. On ne peut pas s’aventurer dans les villages sans l’autorisation du chef. La coutume impose qu’on lui offre un cadeau pour être accueilli. Aujourd’hui, le cadeau se résume le plus souvent à une poignée de billets malgaches. Euros et dollars acceptés. Mais cet argent est utilisé au profit de toute la communauté.
La photo a été prise dans le village de Sakaivo. Sans doute le plus authentique et le mieux préservé. Même si des matériaux modernes commencent à faire leur apparition.
J’ai passé trois jours dans ces montagnes pour visiter plusieurs villages, Sakaivo étant mon camp de base. Logement rustique chez l’habitant.
