Former Petrol Station - Leighton Car Sales, Chester Rd, Heswall, Cheshire.
This large site stands on the boundaries of Cheshire and Wirral (Merseyside) and has been a car sales garage all throughout the street view era, possibly going back to before street view was introduced.
Most recently this was Heatherland Garage with Leighton Car sales occupying the site next door, eventually taking on the former petrol station site as well, but most recently Leighton Car Sales appears to have ceased trading without any warning leaving an empty forecourt and a couple of disgruntled customers taking to Google to post their views.
At the time I took these photos I had no idea when fuel sales ended, although I guess a long time ago, but I was certainly clueless in terms of the fuel brand sold and to me the totem pole gave me no clues.
Chris Barker had photographed this site a couple of months before me with his photos being added a couple of weeks ago, he mentioned that the style of totem pole was only used by Fina, this would then suggest that fuel would have been sold until the late 1990's when all the Fina sites and also those selling the Elf brand would all switch to Total. This site clearly didn't switch to Total so it seems likely that fuel sales would have ended then unless another brand was sold.
Chris also hinted that the site could have possibly rebranded to Butler after Fina which would have no doubt been the last fuel brand to be sold here although this would have not been the region for Butler petrol stations.
