I worked in Delhi as a driver at a few 5-star hotels for almost 2 decades. But the pay wasn’t good. On top of that, I was expected to communicate with the guests in English, which isn’t my forte. With my limited income, I wasn’t able to provide good education to my children. In fact, I used to lose temper whenever my children would come up with a demand to buy something. When a guest would come over to our house, I’d secretly slip out a 10 rupees note to my daughter and ask her to bring some namkeen. She used to keep an eye on the cup of namkeen and hope that some of it would be left for her to eat. I kept re-evaluating my reasons of coming to Delhi."
