The Maple Leaf

Prince Philip, the Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Canadian Regiment (RCR), inspects an infrared reflective (IR) flag on a soldier of the 3rd Battalion. Prince Philip was in Toronto to present the 3rd Battalion with their new Regimental Colours. The old ones were in need of replacement after the wear and tear of the years. The RCR was founded in 1883 and is Canada's oldest regular Army infantry regiment. Amongst their first battle honours were deployments to put down rebellions in Canada's western territories, followed by their first deployment abroad, the Boer War in South Africa. They have served in every war in which Canada has become engaged and the majority of the major peacekeeping and NATO operations of the past fifty-years.
