Luminara

I pisani celebrano il 16 Giugno la vigilia di San Ranieri patrono addobbando la città con una singolare illuminazione che dà il nome all’ evento. Circa settantamila lumini vengono deposti in bicchieri di vetro liscio diafano e disposti lungo delle strutture di legno dipinte di bianco, modellate in modo da esaltare le sagome dei palazzi, dei ponti, delle chiese e delle torri che si affacciano sui lungarni pisani.

Pisa’s citizens the 16th of June celebrate the San Ranieri patron eve decorating the streets of the city with a particular lighting, which gives name to the event ("luminara" from lume-light). More than about seventy-thousand wax candles are put into smooth and transparent glasses and fixed onto wooden white-painted frames, which are placed in order to highlight the shape of palaces, bridges, churches and towers overlooking the banks of the river Arno.
