Multiprocessing speed tests

Speed test of a custom program of mine, written in Python 2.6, running on Ubuntu Linux 10.10. My CPU is an AMD Phenom II X6 1090T. The different color traces represent different data set sizes. This test seems to demonstrate that code execution can occasionally be slower when using all six cores than when using five, or even four. Why?
