Didsbury - Metrolink South Manchester Line

The view of the South Manchester / East Didsbury Metrolink line, in Didsbury.

This line was formerly a British Rail heavy rail line, originally opened by the Midland Railway, to take trains between London St Pancras and Manchester Central. Trains also carried on to Stockport Tiviot Dale. The ownership of the line then later transferred to the Cheshire Lines Committee, until privatisation.

The line was closed to passenger trains in the late 1960s, and track was then lifted in 1970.

The line reopened in 2011 as a light rail tramline for Metrolink services, between East Didsbury, Chorlton and Manchester City Centre.
