The CrossCountry train on Platform 2 was forming a 9-car service to Reading (via Stoke-on-Trent, Birmingham and Coventry).
The Northern train on Platform 3a was not in use and was stabled until the next service later in the day, back to Manchester Piccadilly.
Also a Class 158 (158820) Transport for Wales train on Platform 1 (just about visible), which was seen ready to depart for Shrewsbury (via Wilmslow and Crewe).
