Manchester Piccadilly / Manchester Mayfield
The view of Manchester Mayfield (Fairfield Street), from Platform 14 of Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station, one of through platforms that connects Manchester to the North to destinations including Salford, Bolton, Preston, Warrington, Chester, Llandudno, Bangor, Holyhead, Liverpool, Leeds, York, Middlesborough, Redcar, Blackpool, Barrow, Windermere, Carlisle, Glasgow and Edinburgh.
The rain can be seen falling down on this Saturday afternoon.
In the distance can be seen the former Manchester Mayfield Railway Station, which today is mostly used for late night music events such as the 'Warehouse Project' and also for pop-up bars and restaurants.
It is planned that the area of Mayfield will become a new Urban village with bars, restaurants, parks and apartments, similar to areas such as the 'Northern Quarter', 'Ancoats' and 'New Islington'.
In the distance is also the Macdonald Manchester Hotel (formally BT offices). On the right, you can also see a couple of the new Skyscrapers in Manchester, which reside opposite Deansgate Castlefield.
The Star and Garter night club / bar can be seen on the left.
Also in the distance is a new apartment block for university students.
It is proposed that a new Platform 15 and 16 would be adjacent to Platform 14 for extra capacity for trains that travel to and from the North, however, this plan has been put "on hold" until it has been approved. Hopefully the plans for this are approved in the near future, as the capacity would be much needed for this station.
