After 22 years (March 1997 - December 2019) of running the InterCity West Coast franchise, from Sunday 7th December 2019, Virgin Trains will cease to exist, and the new franchise will take over known as 'Avanti West Coast' which will be operated by First Group and Trenitalia.
As of when this photograph was taken, with roughly one week left until the new franchise starts, this particular unit was the last one to still feature the full Virgin Trains livery and branding.
I was very lucky to see this same unit the following evening!
