Long Rock - GWR 'Castle' HST (43040 + 43198)
A GWR 'Castle' HST set (leading vehicle 43040, rear vehicle 43198), is seen here passing Long Rock (near Penzance) with a service to Plymouth.
These HST sets were previously used on mainline London Paddington services, but have now been replaced by new Class 800 and 802 Bi-Mode Multiple Units as of 2019.
The majority of the HST sets have been sent to ScotRail for it's Inter7City services, serving cities such as Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Aberdeen and Inverness.
The rest of the HST sets have been sent to storage.
A couple of sets have also been sent to Hull Trains (temporarily) for it's London King's Cross - Hull services.
Up to 10 sets have been kept in service with GWR (albeit reduced to 4 carriages each set) to operate long distance services between Cornwall, Devon and South Wales only.
