Manchester Science and Industry Museum - EM2 (Class 77)

An overview of the EM2 (Class 77) electric locomotive, in the Manchester Science and Industry Museum.

These locomotives, like the EM1 (Class 76), were used for passenger services between Manchester Piccadilly - Sheffield Victoria (via the former Woodhead route).

These particular locomotives were later exported to the Netherlands to operate The Hague — Cologne express trains.

This is one of three locomotives (out of the seven constructed), that are currently preserved.

All EM2 (Class 77) locomotives were built locally in Gorton, Manchester.
