47365 [left] and 47223 at Crewe Works open day 24.9.1977

Many of the pictures on my photostream come from original slides and negatives purchased on ebay. I suppose I can divide my purchases into three categories. Those that answer questions or illustrate a point about a subject I’m interested in. Those that are just attractive to the eye (I try and avoid this category as it could be a bottomless money pit!) and finally those that remind me of events that I experienced when I was younger. I took pictures from about 1977, but unfortunately virtually nothing prior to 1998 is still with me having been disposed of in the 1990s.

This scene at Crewe Works falls into the memory category. Not only was I there at the Works open day on 24/9/1977 but I took an identical picture, except mine had a random teenager in a parker standing in front of one of the locos. Why I didn’t wait for him to move I don’t know!

There was certainly plenty to be seen, all listed on the BRopendays.co.uk website, though not much variety amongst the diesels which were just class 08, 40 and 47. There was at least one of every AC electric class and the first class 76 I had ever seen. While waiting for the train home I also remember seeing 24057 on a train at the station, as well as another two tone green class 47.
