anyone ho looks at this hill ...

Lord Siva said: “What cannot be acquired without great pains – the true import of Vedanta (Self-Realization) – can be attained by anyone who looks at this hill from where it is visible or even mentally thinks of it from afar.”

Arunachala Mahatmyam (Skanda Purana)

girivalam is the circumambulation of a holy object, like a temple or here, the Arunachala hill, a symbol of Brahman, the Self, Shiva or whatever name one wants to use to describe the attribute-less supreme Being. The distance is about 15 km and it is recommended to go barefoot and slow, like a "pregnant queen". The direction is clockwise. At all times of the day and night one finds people performing this age old practice.

After doing only one round I got addicted to it and proceeded to go every day for 50 consecutive days. There is an indescribable joy coming from it ...
