Fairey Delta 2 WG777

The famous Fairey Delta 2, was the first aircraft in the world to reach 1000mph. Two aircraft were built, WG774 and WG777. They were designed to research characteristics of high speed flight.

 

WG774 also set the world speed record of 1132mph in 1956. It held this record for a year until the emergence of the XF-101 Voodoo. WG774 was rebuilt and redesignated BAC 221, it was used to test the Ogival delta wing being proposed for Concorde.

 

WG774 is preserved at the FAA museum and WG777 is seen here at the RAF museum cosford on 24/11/2017.
