Swanage Steam Rally
34070 MANSTON was the last locomotive to be built by the Southern Railway before nationalization in 1948. The Bulleid Pacific locomotive, otherwise known as a “spam can” on account of its futuristic air-smoothed casing over the boiler. 34070 MANSTON hauled the prestigious express trains between London and the south coast e.g. the Golden Arrow boat train to Dover. The engine was withdrawn from service by British Railways (BR) in 1964 but happily survived and undergone major restoration and is normally based on the Swanage Railway in Dorset and is owned by the Southern Locomotive Company.
